This course exposes the students to the historical development and benefits of inclusive education. It also focuses on assessment in inclusive and special education making reference to the various forms of assessment techniques such as the formal and informal assessment techniques that can be used to identify children with special educational needs. The course also exposes students to the various approaches used in managing learners with diverse learning needs, their instructional environment is examined including co-teaching, task differentiation, collaboration, with other professionals and parents as well as the use of assistive technologies. The course will also examine how the curriculum and classroom physical environment can be adapted to accommodate the needs of learners with diverse learning needs. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students will undertake an imaginary field trip to schools and report on ways schools cater for students with special educational needs and disabilities.
